BLACK ASTEROID TO RELEASE SOPHOMORE ALBUM INFINITE DARKNESS ON MAY 3
ARTOFFACT RECORDS
Always keeping a second album on the backburner in his mind, Bryan Black (AKA Black Asteroid) says it was Ian Astbury of The Cult who pushed him to get to it. “I was on the bullet train from Osaka to Tokyo when he texted me “you should call your record Infinite Darkness.” How could I refuse?”
The highly-anticipated and truly original crossover record goes where techno has never gone before. Guitars and vocals are featured prominently, alongside a wall of modular synths to create solid machine-driven grooves and atmospheres that coalesce with the live performances β a sound that is uniquely Black Asteroid. Produced over the span of five years, the album features incredible talent, includingΒ Ian Astbury of The Cult, ACTORS, Louisahhh, Michele Lamy, Front Line Assembly, Blush Response, and Speedy J.
After a string of critically acclaimed EPs, Black Asteroidβs debut album, βThrustβ, was released in 2017, also consisting of many crossover singles, featuring vocals from Zola Jesus, Cold Cave and Michele Lamy. In 2023, came the release of 2 EPs β βAcid Flesh”, and βNew Flesh,” showcasing a more experimental sound, utilizing vocals and guitars. In 2011 the debut Black Asteroid single, βEngine 1β introduced Black Asteroid to the world. A unique industrial techno sound that quickly took off, propelling Black to play at clubs such as Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, Khidi in Tbilisi, Fabric and Fold in London and countless major festivals, including being a face of Amsterdam Dance Event. The focus was, and remains, in favor of song structures and vocals in a techno template.
Black started his music career as a sound designer and keyboard tech for Prince at Paisley Park Studios in his hometown of Minneapolis. While working for Prince, Black proceeded to create his own music under the names Haloblack and Motor. These records caught the ear of Martin Gore from Depeche Mode. Soon after, Black was on tour with Depeche Mode and recording songs with Martin Gore. Together Black and Gore wrote a top 40 single βMan Made Machineβ.
