THE ROMAINES – “MERRY CHRISTMAS (I DON’T WANT TO FIGHT TONIGHT)”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
The Romaines are back and better than ever this holiday season. With their new Ramones cover in tow “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight),” the band brings a spirited new take on the Punk Rock classic.
Hailing from California, The Romaines do the classic NYC band proud. Taking the track and twisting into a creation that is truly their own, the stripped down performance breathes new life into the song.
The Romaines themselves have been making waves throughout the year. The legend goes: John Jackson and John Juan started a Ramones cover band, staying true to the sound and look. People liked the hair and sound, but couldn’t hear the words and thought the music was too loud. Upset by the feedback, John and John went to their Tiki Hideaway to sit in their Jacuzzi, listen to their vinyl record collection and strategize; hence The Romaines being born! Like a dream in slow motion, no matter how fast and hard they play, no matter how much they jump and rock, only slow harmonious clean and beautiful melodies flow out of them. Their instruments seem lighter, as their hearts. Suddenly they can hear all the words of the songs and know what they all mean.
“Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight),” is a melodic and hypnotic version of the song, filled with jingling bells, a melodic chorus of voices and perfectly crafted guitars. In the spirit of the holiday season, let The Romaines kick off your festivities and bring you a dose of cheer!
Artist Quote
“Because it is the only Ramones Christmas song! It also happens to be fabulously bittersweet.”
