MATT HITT – “I’M SORRY, NEW YORK”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
Welsh-born, New York-based musician Matt Hitt today has announced his debut EP You’ll Be Lucky, out November 12th via Killphonic Records. He’s also released the swelling, crooning lead single “I’m Sorry, New York,” which is accompanied by a lyric video filmed in Ischia, Italy. Produced by Timothy Lanham of The Vaccines, the EP is an exploration on the joys, heartache, and occasional disillusionment of getting older in New York.
“I wrote ‘I’m Sorry New York’ about the city I’ve spent a third of my life living in,” Hitt explains. “Sometimes, it’s cold and you’re broke and it feels like the harshest, most boisterous place to live…and then one day the sun comes out and people on the street are in a good mood…and you fall in love with it all over again. In that sense, New York is sort of like a person that’ll always be a part of you, perhaps the love of your life; even if sometimes they are the bane of it. I’ve always loved New Wave cinema so the artwork and lyric video is sorta a nod to those types of films.”
Matt Hitt has been mainstay in the New York and Welsh music scenes for years–prior to his solo endeavors, he formed and fronted the indie outfit Drowners, who put out an EP, two full length albums via Frenchkiss Records, and toured with artists such as Foals, Cage The Elephant, and Arctic Monkeys. He currently is a touring guitarist for The Vaccines, who recently wrapped up a international tour.
