BUTCH BASTARD – “IF IT WASN’T FOR THE UFOs”
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
Butch Bastard has released “If It Wasn’t For The UFOs”, the first single from his upcoming and third LP Death Valley. Slated for release in April of 2025, Butch Bastard will support the album as direct support for Father John Misty on the FJM spring EU/UK tour featuring stops at Copenhagen Opera House and London’s Royal Albert Hall.
“I wrote this song as a lot of change was occurring in my life. I was completely overwhelmed by what life was throwing at me. Aside from that, and this is a major theme throughout the entire album, I was disturbed by the collective madness I was witnessing around me in the wake of the pandemic. Salient, hive-minded, delusional conspiracies. The UFO theme, with its central place in conspiracy theory, came naturally. I hesitate to reduce my lyrics down to one identifiable notion, but UFOs in this sense can represent things that come into your life that you did not anticipate and don’t know what to do with.”
Butch Bastard is the moniker of Seattle-raised, Los Angeles-based musician and songwriter Ian Murray. Before beginning Butch Bastard, Murray was a core member of Sub Pop band Poor Moon.
“If It Wasn’t For The UFOs” features a rich tapestry of analog synths and drum machine contributed by Casey Wescott of Fleet Foxes.
