A SPILL EXCLUSIVE MUSIC PREMIERE
Geelong-based singer and songwriter Bella Deer is releasing her new single “Black Dots” this week, and we are premiering the track here on Spill Mag ahead of its release this Friday 2nd October. This is Bella Deer’s first new music since 2024’s Age of Alchemy EP and sees the project venturing into new territory in more ways than one. Her sound has become more expansive, with a rich, more alternative sound than on previous releases. It also marks a period of increased collaboration for the project with Bella bringing in her band to play a larger role during the writing and recording process. “Black Dots” is a bold and powerful statement about taking charge of your own life and celebrating the wins.

“Black Dots is a sort of metaphor for doing a dot to dot of your own life. Following the laws of society that we’ve grown up in, doing all the right things that you think you’re supposed to, following all the signposts; but all for what? It feels like we are constantly going toward the next ‘step’ or ‘goal’. Do we ever stop to recognise the achievements that we make, and the milestones that we hit? I think following and connecting your own ‘black dots’ and having your own expectations of yourself, is far more important.”
