AESTHETIC PERFECTION
@ THE GARRISON, TORONTO
OCTOBER 15, 2022
The industrial pop trio Aesthetic Perfection, lead by Daniel Graves, returned to the Toronto stage after three years for their long-awaited American Psycho North American Tour.
This stop at The Garrisonย was the first chance for local fans to see Aesthetic Perfectionโs new line up that includes Joe Letz taking on a new alter ego on drums and Constance Day on keyboards and guitar. Playing to a packed crowd in the intimate venue, Aesthetic Perfection delivered a high-powered set full of new and classic favourites that seemed to go by in the blink of an eye.
Kicking off the night with โGods & Goldโ, the trio packed the small stage full of frenetic energy as the crowd danced away. Graves made quick use of the limited space to interact with fans and pour his soul into delivering his vocals, particularly on โLove Like Liesโ and โRhythm + Controlโ.
The chemistry within the band is obvious. Watching Letzโs unique and animated drumming style with his long arms is like watching an octopus drum. The addition of his latex face mask, wig, and dress makes for a rather striking visual. Day adds feminine and sensual flare to the mix while dancing and playing keyboard and guitar.
The setlist for the night proved a great way to show the diverse range Aesthetic Perfection can take up while occupying the realm of industrial pop with a darker track like โWickednessโ, a lighter one of โHappy Faceโ, and a classic and personal favourite, โNever Enoughโ.
They closed their set with a single song encore of โLove Like Liesโ that began with Letz dropping one of his drums right into the crowd to be held up. A single light shone on him while he dumped water onto the drum head and pounded into the intro. During the performance, Day made a fun show of playing the obsessed fan dropping to her knees in adoration.
Aesthetic Perfectionโs long-awaited return was a whirlwind performance that seemed to go by in a flash. The only downside to it was how short it was with a setlist of fewer than 10 songs including an encore. All fans would agree โ we wanted more! Graves promised itโll be sooner than three years for them to make their return and hopefully with a longer set.
