MOVEMENT MUSIC FESTIVAL 2025 @ HART PLAZA, DETROIT
QURL
MAY 26, 2025
Qurl (Queen Under Radiant Light) is a rising DJ and producer from Detroit, Michigan, known for her genre-spanning sets. A regular on Detroit’s club and festival circuit—including Movement Festival and direct support slots for artists like Tchami and Mija—she brings a high-energy blend of house, techno, bass-house, and more. Her mission is to create safe, inclusive spaces that reflect the diversity and soul of her hometown’s music and dance culture. Inspired by acts like Skrillex and AC Slater, Qurl aims to unite generations through multi-genre sets that honor the city’s legacy while pushing the sound forward.
Qurl’s Movement 2025 set was shaped by percussive tension, bass line momentum, and genre-fluid sequencing. Tracks like “Dancefloor” by NuBass and “Sauce” by Body Ocean & Merc The Big Body Benz delivered low-end punch and syncopated swagger, while selections like Nikko’s “Can’t Get Enough” brought brief melodic lift before diving back into heavier territory. The flow across the 90-min set leaned into rave intensity—fast-paced transitions, occasional distortion, and vocal stabs layered over breaks, 2-step, and bootybass grooves. “Never Come Close” by longstoryshort capped one of a number of short but intense arcs, blending melancholic pads with propulsive drive. Rather than building toward a peak, the set kept moving laterally, favoring momentum over climax and maintaining a continuous state of exhilaration. It was a tightly mixed, no-nonsense set that underscores Qurl’s interest in genre-bending and rhythmic confrontation.
