MOVEMENT MUSIC FESTIVAL 2024 @ HART PLAZA, DETROIT
DJ MINX
MONDAY MAY 27, 2024
It is the last day of Detroit’s Movement Festival. Over at the Pyramid Stage it was all DJ Minx as she presented House Your Life, a day that included Dee Diggs, Horse Meat Disco, and finished off with Honey Dijon. Hers was the penultimate set and the crowd was ready for her.
Hailing from Detroit, DJ Minx is a celebrated figure in the electronic music scene. With a career spanning over three decades, she is known for her innovative approach to house and techno. Minx founded the Women On Wax collective, championing female DJs and producers. Her notable releases include the infectious track “A Walk In The Park” and the EP Queen Beats. Renowned for her dynamic DJ sets, she has performed at iconic venues and festivals worldwide, including Movement Detroit and Fabric London.
The crowd danced away to a house-heavy set, swaying back and forth in concert with the grooves and the strong, cold winds that filled the air. On and around the stage was a coterie of friends flitting in and out of her personal DJ space, a sort of boiler room vibe, and she worked through it with deft hands and yellow fingernails, entertaining with oblivious gusto.
The crowd especially reacted to some of the set’s highlights including “Show Me Your Love (Club Mix)” by Funky Judge and David Penn, OFFAIAH’s “Satisfied (Extended Mix)”.
As daytime turned to nighttime DJ Minx turned the venue from picnic to nightclub with large orange screens asking, “House Your Life?”. She grooved with building purpose to deliver house music’s promise of joy and exhilaration.
