Camp SummerDaze 2017 | #campsummerdaze
@ Schomberg, Ontario
July 28-30, 2017
Camp SummerDaze was the best summer festival Iβve attended to date in Ontario. The SummerDaze crew, including their savvy volunteers, vendors, and new locatio,n exceeded expectations despite moving from Toronto Island to an idyllic side road in Schomberg. Overall the festival was intimate, well organized, and beautifully catered with amazing music, chic boutiques, holistic wellness sanctuaries, yoga and meditation sessions, keynote speakers on mindful living and ecology, hooping and crafting, multimedia art installations and well-thought out vendors and quiet camping. It was the best warm up to Burning Man or Harvest Festival that I have attended in a while.
Exquisite finishing touches included psychedelic mushrooms and stage dΓ©cor, purple flowers and lanterns scattered in the trees, and red and blue powdered smoke trailing throughout Mark Farinaβs surprise set on Saturday.
When I arrived on Saturday Shea Altadonna started my day with groovy classic house. The focus than shifted to the lawn where people danced in circles to Lemon Bucket Orchestraβs 3 pm set beneath a slack liner performing 20 feet up in the trees. Eduardo Castillo, who SummerDaze premiered on the Toronto Island two summers ago, revved up main stage to a crowd of ecstatic dancers. Surrounding the stage, white tented vendors lined the perimeter of the dance floor, and bikini and boxer clad partiers slipped and slid their way down a makeshift waterslide on the sloping lawn. As Castillo wrapped up an ethereal set, Nabil Zakaria introduced Mark Farina, the surprise guest, who opened a mushroom jazz set with Jamiroquaiβs βLittle L.β He kept the crowd mesmerized as Zakaria descended from a cliff behind the stage in a yellow mumu, holding a red smoking torch followed by a blue smoke torch.Β The result — iridescent red and blue smoke clouds trailed above the dancing crowds. At 8 pm, Saturday, headliners Desert Hearts took over with a cataclysmic set before Jenner capped our night with her signature dark techno. Lucky campers were privy to some private DJ sets near their tents. We got the boot for the night — it was hard to leave.
SummerDaze is a festival series that caters to all of your senses. Be prepared to take in first class electronic and live music, delectable eats, eclectic boutique offerings and a stunning stage in an intimate bro free atmosphere. If you were silly enough to miss this, be sure to check out SummerDazeβs upcoming Blu Party with Sydney Blu on August 12, 2017, or the SummerDaze Sunset Sail with Monkey Safari on August 19, 2017.Β Snooze you lose!
