VNV Nation
Electric Sun
Metropolis Records
VNV Nation is back with its 11th studio album Electric Sun. Lead by Ronan Harris, the project is a pinnacle in the world of EBM, futurepop, and industrial dance since 1990 and its presence is still filling concert halls and darkened dance floors now. Harris’ musical vision has always encompassed vast aurally cinematic worlds that speak of bleakness and despair on one end balanced with hope and promise on the other.
Electric Sun delivers exactly that and here, Harris is not reinventing the wheel because the wheel never needed reinventing. He is continuing this journey into the great beyond and taking us along for the ride.
The album kicks off with the title track “Electric Sun” and if you think cinematically, the song evokes staring up at a darkened sky as the rain slowly falls around a bleak gray city.
VNV Nation exists to encourage people to dance out their sorrows and embrace joy. Though this album leans a bit further towards introspection and more mid-tempo tracks, there are standouts that will bring the crowd to the floor including “Prophet”, “Invictus”, and the two released singles “Wait”, and “Before the Rain”.
Not to speak lightly of those mid-tempo introspective tracks as those speak to the humanity of this album. These are the tracks you vibe out to on your headphones that will take you for a ride. They stand out. “The Game”, “Sunflare”, and “Under Sky” will accomplish exactly that. “Run” will live in a special personal place where the iconic VNV track “Beloved” also lives.
Electric Sun is an awakening of an album; it awakens emotions and brings forth feelings. It is contemplative, moody, and invokes soul searching in the best possible ways.
