VENOM
INTO OBLIVION
NOISE RECORDS

Metal music is a subject that is passionate for many. With a longstanding history, this genre is more than just simply that. Metal is, for many, a lifestyle, a movement, and a way of being. Metalheads will often debate about which bands are the greatest, however, some names are undeniably giants in the industry. Names like Black Sabbath, Metallica, and Iron Maiden stand out amongst many others. Some continue their music careers for decades, spanning 30 or 40 years. After 8 years of waiting and 40 years of the band being active, major metal icons Venom have stepped back into the limelight with their newest release, Into Oblivion.
The title track of this album, “Into Oblivion,” is a classic thrash metal track that showcases the skills of the band in harmony. Cronos’ vocals have evolved in skill and complete the instrumentals extremely well. Another delight on this album is “As Above, So Below,” which feels like an elevated take on the classic Venom sound from the ‘80s. The thrashy drums from Danté are particularly punchy, and the guitar riffs from Rage are creative, and give the song a ‘Satanic ritual-like’ mood. The slow start into what feels musically as a downwards spiral into the unknown is the perfect metaphor for what the title symbolizes: The descent into Hell.
This album is a must-listen for metal fans, particularly those that enjoy Venom’s music and those that enjoy heavy and quicker tempoed riffs. For those that are looking to dip their toes into this band, or even this genre, this album is the perfect introductory album. It has a little bit of music for everyone while not straying too far off the beaten path. Cronos, Rage, and Danté have created a newer band sound while sticking true to their roots. Truly, this is an amazing album, and a definite listen for those that enjoy metal, or are looking for their first listen.
