TISH MELTON
WHEN WE’RE OLDER
CMND SHFT
It seems Brandi Carlisle has an acute sense of where good musical values lie. A big name in her own right, she was recently involved in the revival of Joni Mitchell’s career, and is also working with younger, emerging artists.
One of those is Tish Melton, who under Carlisle’s guidance just came up with her debut, 5-song EP When We’re Older. When we say younger, it means really young, since Melton is just 17 years of age, but with an abundance of talent that is yet to reach its full heights. There is enough substance on this EP to make it a great pop listen, and great pop is possibly harder to make than some supposedly more complex musical forms.
And no matter how much help you get from big names in music, if you don’t have enough talent of your own, it cannot be covered. Melton doesn’t have to worry though, on the basis of these five songs, she will go quite far.
