THE USED
MEDZ
BIG NOISE
The Orem, Utah rock band The Used has released their 10th album, Medz, an album full of B-sides, featuring 7 unreleased songs, leaving just three songs previously released. All of the songs were written and recorded during the writing session for their last album Toxic Positivity.
All of the songs seem to follow a theme of depression, low self-esteem, and they even threw in a reference to a Greek mythological tyrant whose punishment for killing people was to push a stone up a hill only for it to roll back down over and over again, which pretty much describes how life goes sometimes.
βFuck Youβ has great energy. Filled with thoughts and feelings of emptiness and of being a failure, itβs one of the more relatable songs on the album. The closing track, βTerrifiedβ, has the feeling of being afraid both in the music and the lyrics. Opening with the lyrics βwhat kind of demons afraid of the darkβ, the track describes the feeling of being helpless against the dark and whatβs in the dark.
The entire album has an emo, punk, Blink-182 sound with darker lyrics, keeping the bandβs signature sound while delivering a beautifully-written and gripping album that will absolutely resonate with their listeners.
