SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: THE FRANKLIN ELECTRIC – IN YOUR HEART

The Franklin Electric

The Franklin Electric
In Your Heart
Nettwerk

Life goes on, and all is remembered in music.

An incredibly personal album, In Your Heart is undeniably sorrowful, and yet hopeful at the same time.

With a soft tone but conviction in his lyrics, frontman Jon Matte continues to turn heartbreaking and lonely experiences into anthems. He invites us all in out of the dark to make sense of the pain that comes from a broken relationship.

“Trouble”, the third track on the EP, embodies the soul of the album by starting off with a delicate piano piece that immediately opens up to beautiful but melancholy lyrics about a relationship falling apart. The title track, “In Your Heart”, has some teeth to it, the lyrics bringing an edge that sometimes was lacking in other areas of the album.

It is poetry set to music, but there are times where the lyrics might have called for a little more power from the music, something to take the anger from the lyrics to the next level.
