FUR TRADER
EXECUTIONLAND
INDEPENDENT
Andrew Pelletier isn’t exactly a fur trader, although he uses that moniker to release his music. On the other hand, he just might be, if you are replacing real furs with some cozy, fuzzy, truly melodic bedroom pop/country-tinged rock that he just came up with on his most recent album Executionland.
And while the title might sound a bit fearsome, the lyrics here deal with more intimate stuff, particularly new fatherhood. At the same time, while nine tracks here were recorded in Pelletier’s garage in Los Angeles, the artist shows some nifty producing capabilities giving the songs whose veneer that surpasses your usual bedroom stuff.
Still, it is his songs that shine here, but so does the excellent cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Little Green,” that fits the originals here like a silk glove. And while Pelletier has been somewhat prolific so far, this is probably most mature release so far.
