Punk or post-punk, if you consider the more modern form of the genre, even in its primal form in the 60s, always touched on another genre or two, even if you were the Ramones,
Vancouver’s SLIP~ons hold on to that premise on their debut EP Heavy Machinery. Throughout the five songs that comprise it, their energy-driven music touches quite a few bases – from power pop to essence of punk, and as far backwards as The Rolling Stones, or forward as grunge heard through the ears of more melody-oriented bands like The Afghan Whigs.
Throughout though, the key that holds SLIP~ons music together is the tightness, and yes, the speed with which they go through their music, at the same time not losing touch with the main melody line.
Quite a lot of promise here.
