SHIPS IN THE NIGHT
PROTECTION SPELLS
METROPOLIS RECORDS

Alethea Leventhal, aka Ships In The Night, already has a slew of releases behind her, with album Latent Powers from 2021 easily recalling the heyday of Cleopatra Records and its predominant sound being a sort of a high point in her recording career so far.
Slowly though, Leventhal seems to have shifted to the poppier side of electro-infused music, her latest album Protection Spells confirming that shift. There seem to be more beats present, and they are a bit perkier, even though Leventhal keeps some darker overtones in her lyrics.
It is an audible shift, and some of the fans she acquired along the way might not approve of this poppier approach. Yet the thing is, Leventhal handles this poppier approach quite admirably, easily responding with the statement that there is nothing wrong with good pop, and on Protection Spells Ships In The Night creates good pop.
