SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: SEAN BURNS – LOST COUNTRY

Sean Burns

SEAN BURNS
LOST COUNTRY
DEPARTMENT STORE RECORDS

If the title of the latest album by Winnipeg artist Sean Burns, is not a true giveaway of what you can hear within the grooves (or bits), Lost Country, I don’t know what is.

And what Burns does here and how can only be commended. He picked up ten classic songs by some of the key Canada country artists, while he does his best to keep the original structure and spirit of these songs.

But then, that has been something Burns has been doing for a while through his ongoing work to preserve and promote Canada’s country music legacy, something he did for over five years as host “Boots & Saddle” on Winnipeg’s CKUW and his podcast The Northern Report.

That archival work seems to have done some great things for Burns’ versions of these Canadian country classics, as he and his stellar backing band do them justice.
