It Will Come Out Of Nowhere is the appropriately titled newest release from experimental doom metal pioneers Post Death Soundtrack. Jon Ireson and Steve Moore are the current players in the ever-changing cooperative that began back in 2008. This latest effort infuses elements that include but are not limited to trip-hop, psychedelic, doom metal, trance, Arabic, and spoken word.

It’s an album that’s full of surprises. The opening track, “Chosen Sons”, is a gloomy lamentation with an accompanying video that explores the depths of the lyrics “the perfect place for hope to hide”. “Dark Matter” revels in the pre-slumber turmoil of an impending nightmare or a demonic lullaby that will keep you up at night.

“Ramona Hills” is another standout. It’s soothing and scary and totally fascinating how Moore and Ireson manage to create such an emotive auditory landscape with only a few well-engineered sound bites.

The final track, “Bridge Burner” brings us back to more obvious doom metal roots complete with thunderous bass lines and demonic yell. There are interludes of depressive moaning and an undercurrent of heavy breathing before it dissipates into a gentle but anguished guitar strum. It’s a pretty epic ending.

With the help of Colin Everall,  Moore and Ireson have created a work of art that consists of both auditory and visual components. Not everyone is going to love all the tracks, but everyone is likely to find something on one of the tracks that they love.
