SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: PIERCE THE VEIL – THE JAWS OF LIFE

Pierce The Veil

Pierce The Veil
The Jaws Of Life
Fearless Records

San Diego, CA’s Pierce The Veil has released a new album, The Jaws Of Life, on frontman Victor Fuentes’ birthday. It’s been seven years since Misunderstandings, and their fans couldn’t be happier to have them back.

The band hasn’t deviated much from their signature emo hardcore punk sound, but this album has a bit more grunge to it. The first single released was the guitar heavy angsty track “Pass The Nirvana”, coincidentally named after the band that immediately comes to mind when you hear it. It’s fun and energetic and has everything you need to take you back to the grunge age. It’s about finding your nirvana, or something to silence a world that just keeps getting louder.

The latest drop from the album, “Even When I’m Not With You”, has the same riff looping continuously through the entire song. That riff with Fuentes’ mesmerizing vocals and romantic lyrics easily makes this one of my favorite tracks from the album.

“Resilience” keeps in line both musically and lyrically with the rest of the album. It opens with a snip from the movie Dazed and Confused. You can feel the coming of age vibe not just with the opening and the music but also with the lyrics throughout the song.

The whole album is edgy, the guitars are raucous, and the whole thing is wrapped up in the title which is just about how all the negativity in life will try to sink its teeth in and devour you.

About the Author
Melinda Welsh
Melinda is a music enthusiast from the US who grew up on vinyl in the 70s and 80s. She's a lover of all genres, but rock/metal runs through her veins. Music is always in the background and in her head. Unfortunately, she has to have a "regular 8-5" job since "Professional Concert Go-er" doesn't pay the bills. Her bliss would be to follow more musicians and bands than "People she may know" on social media. Her ultimate long term goal is to be the old lady just enjoying the show down in front at the barricades at live shows. Her favorite quote is "Where words fail, music speaks".
