MOL SULLIVAN
GOOSE
INDEPENDENT
Cincinnati singer-songwriter Mol Sullivan gave a very succinct description of her debut album Goose: “long exposure photograph.” One of the reasons she considers it as such might lie in the fact that it took her 15 years of songwriting to come up with it, or that she had a long battle with alcoholism, or other parts of her life that she wants to talk about here.
Yet, Sullivan doesn’t wallow in misery, nor does she indulge in the ‘standard’ navel-gazing some other singer-songwriters tend to go for. She has a very realistic, or shall we say sober approach to what she sings about, dressing her lyrics in a very complex and diverse musical settings that give her music that all-encompassing sense it needs.
Throughout the album you sense this self-cleansing experience that doesn’t only work for Sullivan, but for her listeners too.
