MAEVE STEELE
HONEYLAND
INDEPENDENT
Some artists need a few albums to establish their artistic presence. Others, such as Maeve Steele, just a single and two EPs is quite enough.
As far as this LA-based singer-songwriter is concerned, her latest and second EP Honeyland seems to be quite enough, as Steele presents us six fully-formed, mature songs that are brimming with varied melodic treats, excellent lyrics, and Steele’s impressionable vocals.
In some ways, Steele’s music is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, without any imitating elements present, just a similar musical and lyrical concept that stands on its own.
She explains that concept: βHoneyland became a place for me to write through nostalgia, to indulge the melancholy and beauty of the transition from girlhood to womanhood, and those who we share that experience with.β
And it works throughout this EP, demanding not only more listens, but raising the expectations of what is to yet come from Steele.
