SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: ISKWĒ AND TOM WILSON – MOTHER LOVE

iskwē And Tom Wilson

iskwē And Tom Wilson
Mother Love
iskwē Music Inc

Mother Love is the first long-awaited collaborative album released by award winning artists iskwē | ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ (Cree Métis from Treaty One Territory ) and Tom Wilson | Tehoh’ahake (Mohawk). Here, they’ve come up with some truly assured and sublime variations on folksy roots Canadiana. All song credits go to Wilson, with five songs cowritten with Serena Ryder, who also produced five tracks on the album, and provided drums and most of the guitar tracks on the songs she helped write. Wilson and iskwē co-wrote and produced three of the tracks.

Here, the duo came up with their own harmonious blend of male/female vocal combinations.

Of course, iskwē and Wilson have their own vocal strengths and capabilities that are perfectly suited to their variations of all that is roots music that include subtle touches coming from their personal stories that are well-woven into something you might call ‘standard’ roots music.

It is all done with such ease that it can only come from the right feel, knowledge and experience. It all leads to one conclusion – that Canadian music should spread around elsewhere too.
