SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: EMILIA – UP

Emilia

Emilia
Up
Current Records

Emilia made her music debut in 2013. Since then, she has completed a full length album, and followed it up with an EP. During this time, while creating her music, she has also found time to complete her studies in York University’s Honours Music Program; quite a lot of accomplishment in a short time.

Her studies mean that she has been exposed to many different styles of music and to the ‘masters’ of music, in all genres. She brings all of this to her own music. It may be pop, but it is pop infused with other styles and arrangements. It is driven by a strong dance beat, and is close to electro dance music, but with a few twists and turns in it to keep the listener entertained and listening.

This EP from Emilia is pure pop for now people, plain and simple. The music is well constructed, well produced and well written. Well arranged and very catchy, it has all the components of good pop music. Each one of these songs would be a hit both on contemporary radio, and with listeners. The goal is to sound good, to create moments of pleasure, and to create a very enjoyable listening experience. This is all accomplished. Emilia has a charming and engaging voice, which she uses to full effect, and though it is dance/pop music, she creates warmth.

This is a very accomplished EP and I look forward to more. I would like to see Emilia challenge herself with more with different styles, genres, and production. She certainly has the talent.

About the Author
Aaron Badgley
Born and raised in Whitby, Aaron discovered music through his love of The Beatles. This led to a career in radio, writing for various publications, and ultimately a radio show about The Beatles (Beatles Universe), which ran for over four years. When not immersed in music, Aaron enjoys spending time with the loves of his life -- his wife Andrea, and daughters Emily and Linda (all of whom have an intense love of music too).
