DIANE COLL
OLD GHOSTS
INDEPENDENT
Words are quite important to Diane Coll, after all in the other part of her life, she is a mental health therapist. And yes, Coll is approaching her music as some sort of personal therapy.
Maybe that is one of the reasons her second album, Old Ghost, has some darker, moodier overtones, as if Coll is exorcising some old, personal ghosts.
Yet, instead of her music (and lyrics) being hermetic and impenetrable to her listeners, Coll is able through both her songwriting and musical presentation (excellent vocals and song arrangements) to convey her message(s) and let the listeners find their personal connection to her music and lyrics, and in a way, serve as a sort of a personal therapy of their one.
βI want my music to communicate to my listeners that they are not alone,” she says. βLife is good even when it doesn’t feel like it.β And, yes, it works here.
