SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE – BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE

Bullet For My Valentine

Bullet For My Valentine
Bullet For My Valentine
Spinefarm Records

After ongoing delays, British heavy metal band Bullet For My Valentine is finally ready to release their self-titled studio album. Taking two years to complete, it’s heavy, it’s brutal and they waste no time punching it out from start to finish, giving you an intense 44-min ride, so hang on.

As the album opener “Parasite” starts, you hear a glitchy introduction with tiny clips of choruses of their previous singles that fades out and then punches out a pretty heavy initiation into one of their heaviest, most aggressive records to date. Vocalist Matt Tuck releases fury with “you make me sick like a virus/you fucking parasite!” and “I hope you choke!” Lead single “Knives”, Bullet For My Valentine starts out with a thump of the drums and then continues the ferocity of the song with Tuck’s intense screams throughout. It’s a banger that no doubt will start up thrashing in the pits. Bringing it back to old BFMV sound halfway through, they get right back to it with “Shatter” and follow through to the end wrapping things up with “I’m just so tired of hurting” in “Death by A Thousand Cuts”. Before you know what hit you, it’s over. It’s worth an immediate repeat.

Bullet For My Valentine has outdone itself. Coming out of the gate swinging, never letting up and never disappointing, the album is well worth the wait, and everything you could hope to hear from Bullet For My Valentine, pleasing both old and new fans alike.

About the Author
Melinda Welsh
Melinda is a music enthusiast from the US who grew up on vinyl in the 70s and 80s. She's a lover of all genres, but rock/metal runs through her veins. Music is always in the background and in her head. Unfortunately, she has to have a "regular 8-5" job since "Professional Concert Go-er" doesn't pay the bills. Her bliss would be to follow more musicians and bands than "People she may know" on social media. Her ultimate long term goal is to be the old lady just enjoying the show down in front at the barricades at live shows. Her favorite quote is "Where words fail, music speaks".
