Alex Roberts
Love & Supernatural

When some artists come up with anniversary editions, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the initial release was an enormous success with the audience. Quite often, they want to bring to the attention of the public a release that should, according to their opinion, have garnered more response than it did.
Of course, there are cases where there were ample reasons an album didn’t get much response, but some certainly should have. Such anniversary editions are a good chance to do so.
One of the artists and their albums that do deserve that second chance is Alex Roberts and his Love & Supernatural, an album that is getting its 10th anniversary edition.
Now, in the times when singer songwriters are having a full-on comeback, getting that attention is not an easy task. Being able to come up with some interesting music/lyrics combination should certainly help, and Roberts certainly does so here.
As the title of the album suggests, Roberts, a magic practitioner himself, examines the connection between the two not often easy to fathom human phenomena, covering everything from ancient practices of pre-Christian Europe through W.B. Yeats poems.
It could be something quite overbearing if it were only for the lyrics, but Roberts manages to combine his magic-oriented thoughts with some equally intriguing, folk-inspired music.
