SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: 1st BASE RUNNER – LIGHT ROARS

1st Base Runner

1st Base Runner
Light Roars
Independent

Tim Husmann, aka 1st Base Runner has been on a hot streak for a few years now with his brand of dark, electronic modern gothic-oriented sounds, bringing the 80scool 40 years forward.

Any changes on his latest EP Light Roars? Yes, in the sense that his connection to that sound professed by the Joy Division, New Order, The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, and later on Radiohead and quite a few others, is stronger, and his song writing even more refined and detailed.

So are the arrangements, as Husmann gives the guitars a more prominent role here, adding also a good slice of backing vocals. But it is still the strength of Husmann’s song writing here that carries the day, turning all the above influences into something that actually bears a clear personal note, lifting the five songs here above just ‘inspirational.’

Particularly intriguing are “Pushing Away Mastered” and the minimalistic ”’Dead Wood”, perfectly suited for David Lynch images at their darkest.

Simply, 1st Base Runner scores another home run.
