AUDIOGUST – HERE WE GO AGAIN
A SPILL EXCLUSIVE ALBUM PREMIERE
Long known for the awesome musical hub that it is, Seattle produces yet another artist worthy of your attention. Between rock and pop, both delightful and dazzling, AudioGust has put together an album that we have the pleasure to premiere today – Here We Go Again.
AudioGust is the solo project of songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Chris Evans, whose journey started in the 1980s as a guitarist and bassist in various bands. After a decades-long detour in the software industry (including 20 years at Microsoft), he has returned to his true passion, writing and recording in his own studio, since releasing over three dozen songs and collaborated with artists worldwide, drawing inspiration from bands such as Green Day, The Police, and Foo Fighters.
The new 14-track offering allows us to travel with the author on his raw, honest journey through the creative process. It’s an exploration of inspiration’s fickle nature, from the electric spark of new ideas to the quiet moments when it vanishes. Weaving together popular singles with fresh material, this deeply personal yet universally resonant collection captures both the soaring highs and challenging lows of bringing art to life.
In the lead-up to this album, AudioGust released the bright and punctuated title track “Here We Go Again”, an upbeat tribute to the unpredictable nature of creative inspiration, and “Award Show”, a catchy indie rock piece narrated from the perspective of a barren artist riding on inertia, as hollow accolades amplify his dread in a surreal theater of unworthiness.
This AudioGust album marks a triumphant return for Chris Evans, showcasing a captivating blend of pop-rock that is both instantly catchy and deeply personal. The album is packed with melodically loaded hooks and agile rhythms that quickly get under the skin, much like Gin Blossoms or Maroon 5 in their prime. Evans’ harmonious vocals and intimate lyrical explorations evoke the thoughtful artistry of Elliot Smith. This collection of lingering pleasures confirms Evans’ renewed creative power, delivering an album that is sure to resonate with a wide audience
“The theme of Here We Go Again is the unpredictable nature of inspiration—both the euphoria of experiencing it and the despair when it disappears. The album is split into songs that explore the extremes of inspiration and songs that have come to me while living through those extremes,” says Chris Evans.
“Structurally, the album follows a pattern: odd-numbered tracks tell stories about the many ways artists interact with inspiration, while even-numbered tracks are either songs that arrived in those flashes of creativity or, like Unspoken, took months of struggle to bring to life.”
Here, Evans presents a menu of hooky anthems for disenchanted optimists. With a sound vortex imbued with 90’s to 2000’s alternative rock, his guitar-driven music brings in a strong, driving rhythm section, big choruses and even bigger bridge sections. Offering a deep dive into the creative process, this record features six brand-new songs as well as fan-favorite singles, including “Tomorrow is Mine”, a finalist in the 2024 USA Songwriting Contest.
Among these gems is the track “Seattle”’, which Evans penned as a love letter to his hometowny, told through the eyes of a traveler who spends too much time on the road. Longing to return home, he clings to the memory of a fleeting connection made on his latest trip—hoping to bring that person back to experience everything he loves about his city. More than just a personal story, “Seattle” was written as something of an ode to the city itself. With a knack for crafting memorable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, underscored by upbeat rhythms and evocative guitar arrangements, AudioGust creates music that speaks to the disenchanted and dreamers alike through sonic exploration of the modern human condition. AudioGust released his debut album Walk With Me in 2023, followed by the Hope from Darkness and Love and Pain EPs.
Here We Go Again is available from fine music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. The full album by the same name will be released on May 30.
