SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: MÖTLEY CRÜE – DR. FEELGOOD (35th ANNIVERSARY 2024 REMASTER)

Mötley Crüe

MÖTLEY CRÜE
DR. FEELGOOD (35th ANNIVERSARY 2024 REMASTER)
BMG

If you were around for the original release of Dr. Feelgood in 1989, you’d remember the seismic impact of its debut. It marked the peak of Mötley Crüe’s popularity, solidifying their status as global superstars. The title track, “Dr. Feelgood”, showcased a band operating at the height of their powers, featuring massive production, thunderous drums, scorching guitar riffs, and a next-level music video. The album was destined for greatness, boasting chart-topping hits like “Without You”, “Same Ol’ Situation (S.O.S.)”, “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)”, and arguably their most iconic anthem, “Kickstart My Heart”.

Fast forward to 2024, and the Dr. Feelgood 35th Anniversary Remaster is nothing short of a celebration of this monumental release. This reimagined version of the #1 Billboard Top 200 album, which originally achieved six times Platinum status, brings the classic record into the modern era with impeccable sonic updates.

The remaster is presented in a deluxe vinyl box set, which feels as much like a museum-worthy artifact as it does an album release. The package includes three coloured vinyl records, posters, and an array of printed materials that fan will absolutely LOVE).

Sonically, the remaster is a revelation. Best experienced on high-fidelity headphones or a proper sound system, the stereo field is nothing short of extraordinary. Each instrument is given ample room to breathe, with a clarity and separation that elevates the entire listening experience. It’s as if the band is performing live in the room with you. The remastering process has done wonders for the album’s already powerful tracks. The drums hit harder, the guitar solos scream louder, and Vince Neil’s vocals cut through the mix with newfound precision. It’s a testament to how far audio engineering has come in the past three decades.

This anniversary edition goes beyond just polishing the original album. It includes remastered versions of previously unheard demos for nearly all the tracks, offering fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative process. These raw, unfiltered recordings are a treat, revealing alternate takes and ideas that didn’t make the final cut. Additionally, standout live performances of the album’s biggest hits have been included, capturing the raw energy and charisma Mötley Crüe brought to their legendary live shows.

Mötley Crüe deserves full credit for delivering a re-release that is both faithful to the original and enhanced for modern audiences. The Dr. Feelgood 35th Anniversary Remaster is not just an album–it’s an event. From the unparalleled remastering to the thoughtful repackaging, this release is a must-have for fans and a true celebration of a landmark moment in rock history.
