SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: THE PLOT IN YOU – VOL. 3

The Plot In You

THE PLOT IN YOU
VOL. 3
FEARLESS RECORDS

As The Plot In You has progressed in their musical journey, their sound has undergone significant transformation over the past six studio albums. Initially characterized by heavier tones and intense instrumentation, they have gradually shifted towards a more expansive and melodically intricate sound. This evolution reflects a broader approach to their music, where they incorporate a diverse range of influences that create emotionally resonant soundscapes.

The band has fearlessly ventured into uncharted territory, experimenting with both alternative and metal elements, which has allowed them to push the boundaries of their genre. This boldness showcases their growth and confidence, demonstrating that they are secure in their musical identity while still willing to explore deeper themes and innovative sounds. Their willingness to navigate the complex waters of heavy music without losing their essence reveals a band that is not only self-aware but also deeply committed to their artistry.

These advancements are particularly evident in their latest release, Vol. 3 of their EP series, where this new installment is something new, fresh, and a culmination of their exploration, highlighting their ability to blend aggression with melodic intimacy, further solidifying their place in the modern metal landscape.

From the beginning, “Been Here Before” A Plot In You delivers these vibrant and spirited instrumental energies juxtaposed by raw-throated vocals that highlight the band’s versatility through subtle tonal changes that gradually build throughout the track, creating rich atmospheric layers that envelop its intense presence. Such a multi-dimensional experience dives into the next two tracks, both equally as intense, but in different creative measures.

“Pretend” and “Spare Me” continue to build the agitated and melancholic tension for the rest of the EP. Soaring clean and pained unclean vocals dance around a disquieting variance of swirling guitars and discomposed percussive energies, creating effective dissonance between both tracks. Something A Plot In You makes clear with many of their tracks, including these, is that they aren’t interested in pushing boundaries so much as they are focused on making you feel each experience. Each track makes you feel something different, as their impressive vocal play is something that stands out amongst their ability to artfully articulate the same emotional turbulence in distinct, hard-hitting ways that stay with you.

Overall, The Plot In You continues to prove that they are an evolving force within their genre, unafraid to dive deeper for creative inspiration. All three parts of this EP saga show that neither experience exists in a realm of concavity, each choice these series of EPs have made up to this point defines the other, and Vol. 3 seeks to move past all safe barriers and instead seeks to explore its aggressive tendencies in inventive, evocative ways that still feel very much feel in tune with the soul-stirring core values of their sound.
