FCUKERS RELEASE “TOMMY” | THE LATEST SINGLE FROM THEIR DEBUT BAGGY$$ EP OUT SEPTEMBER 6
TECHNICOLOUR
Utilizing warped, pitched-down vocals, a thundering bassline and snappy, electro-tinged percussion, “Tommy” unveils another side to Fcukers’ highly anticipated Baggy$$ EP, out on September 6th on Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour.
Following recent singles “Homie Don’t Shake” and “Bon Bon”, Fcukers — the trio made up of Shanny Wise (vocals), Ben Scharf (drums) and Jackson Walker Lewis (bass, keys, production) — have continued to carve out a fierce and growing reputation as one of the most exciting acts operating out of NYC today. With support coming from the likes of NME — who feature them as their latest Cover stars — So Young, HERO, NYLON, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, marg.mp3, Perfectly Imperfect, The Face, Pitchfork and many more, the band have just come off a run of lauded shows including a surprise performance at Montreal’s Osheaga Festival (where they also played an afterparty with Avalon Emerson, and an Ed Banger 20th Anniversary show with Tiga), a wild pool-party show at the Justice after-party at Le Bain NYC (alongside Hudson Mohawke and Busy P) and their own single launch show at Mehanata, NYC. They were also recently announced to play alongside Confidence Man on their upcoming UK dates — including a sold-out stop at London’s O2 Academy Brixton — as well as performances at Portola Festival in SF, an instantly sold out Boiler Room Portola pre-party with Tove, SG Lewis, Peaches, JPEGMAFIA and more, and the Pitchfork London & Paris festivals in November.
Across six-tracks that also span high-energy, 90’s-inspired dance & electronics of lead-single “Bon Bon”, the irreverent, groove-heavy “Homie Don’t Shake”, and the decidedly sultry and downtempo “I Don’t Wanna”, the band follow-through on the promise shown on their previously self-released singles: “Mothers” and “Devils Cut” (and a choice remix of the James Murphy-featuring single “Los Angeles”) to deliver one of this year’s standout debuts.
Lauded for their headline live shows — usually announced last-minute, often spread via word of mouth alone, and always sold-out — Fcukers have quickly accumulated a growing number of notable fans including Beck, Julian Casablancas, Yves Tumor, Clairo, Dom Dolla, Busy P, Avalon Emerson and Matt Wilkinson; who described them as “possibly the most in-demand band in New York at the moment”. The band have already toured across five continents, taking in performances at NYC’s Governors Ball, Montreal’s Osheaga, SXSW Sydney and Tokyo; numerous sold-out dates in London and New York; and two standout runs at this year’s SXSW — a trip which saw them emerge as one of the most talked about bands in attendance; performing at showcases with Creem Magazine and Perfectly Imperfect amongst others; and the UK’s Great Escape — which saw them garner a similar buzz, with Rolling Stone UK hailing them one of ‘the best things we saw’ and noting that: “One sentence overheard more than others was: “You have to see Fcukers!”.
On top of their own headline shows — which are frequently situated in off-the-radar venues like their sold-out party in the unfinished swimming pool at SAA Brooklyn — the band have also been tapped for high-profile support slots, including a five-date run for Jockstrap, a set at Avalon Emerson’s 9000 Dreams curated show, and opening for George Clanton and Confidence Man on their NYC dates, with US fashion icon and cultural influencer Hedi Slimane of Celine flying the group out to Paris Fashion Week to DJ their closing party. They also recently jumped on The Lot Radio for a session with Derrick Gee which included an impromptu on-air interview with Baauer. The band have also seen early radio support from the likes of BBC’s Steve Lamacq, Arielle Free, Jack Saunders; and played a guest mix for Triple J’s Mix Up series with Kailyn Crabbe.
