SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: LEATHERS – ULTRAVIOLET

Leathers

LEATHERS
ULTRAVIOLET
ARTOFFACT RECORDS

Shannon Hemmett’s Leathers’ Ultraviolet, is a hypnotic musical journey complete from A – Z, an album that takes the listener on a journey, not chaotic, smooth. Storytelling: this album flows like a river; it is easy to listen to, and it’s like the background playlist to your life.

Shannon Hemmett graces the vocal landscape and does a tremendous job, and it’s not often that the vocals grab me as the inspiring edge in a musical buffet. Still, Hemmett’s precise and lyrical depth is the absolute highlight and is only embellished by cleverly placed instrumental synth. I find this album’s strength is these vocals, as said before, the playlist that bubbles away in the background “elevate, penetrate, fascinate” – it’s freaking fantastic.

The standout track is “Day For Night”, dreamlike silk; it’s captivating. Inches from tears, you’ll be questioning your life’s purpose. Draw card: Hemmett’s melting lyrical prowess. All tracks are melting into 80s synthetic ooze, fantasy vs. reality. It’s appealing. Without a jagged edge, you’re floating. True to Hemmett’s intent, ‘I find it satisfying to create a total aesthetic.’

Complete and even compilation from the outset, Leathers’ Ultraviolet works well to capture a complex aesthetic phenomenally well. If that labyrinth of fantasy vs reality feeds your soul, I would suggest you have found it here in this comedown melodic piece and recommended for that calming appeal.

About the Author
Victoria Love-Rainbow
I am an avid connoisseur of music experiences but never had the courage to share them until now. My inspiration comes from the '90s alternative and punk rock music I grew up listening to. Bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Silverchair, Eve 6 and Everclear shaped my worldview and taste in music. I want to capture some of their energy and spirit in my stories. Thanks for checking out my bio and my work!
