Some would say that singer songwriters are ‘dime-a-dozen’ these days, but there are quite a number of such artists that simply stand out, depending mostly on their capability to combine good to excellent music with some outstanding storytelling combined with such music.

It seems exactly the reason Donovan Woods has built a devoted following, and it is that capability Woods has in combining some delicate songwriting with even more telling storytelling that is in full swing on his latest album Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now.

Combining his strengths with some well-chosen collaborators here (Amy Wadge, Madi Diaz, William Prince, Matt Prime), Woods weaves his melodies and stories with a delicate touch that is a characteristic of only the best among singer songwriters, making this album one of the better ones he has recorded so far. Woods should get a wider recognition beyond his devoted followers.
