“Reflection (Dark Horses)” is the second single from the highly anticipated album Neostalgia, dropping September 6, 2024. The track originated from sketches Heiko and Julian were creating for their collaborative album.
Shortly after, they were asked to send demos to the director of Killerman, an American feature film starring Liam Hemsworth. While the sketches were meant to showcase a style, the filmmakers fell in love with this shimmering track, hence “Reflection (Dark Horses)” became a dark aural stage for the violence erupting in a key scene of Killerman, titled “Dark Horses” on the film’s original soundtrack.
For the single / album version “Reflection (Dark Horses)” gets reimagined, returning to the original sketch, altering the structure and adding foreboding drums and a choir-like electronic atmosphere.
The voice and the words are now taking center stage, together with a vintage vocoder.
The haunting lyrics explore the internal struggle of a drone pilot while on a mission. Featuring the voice of director/performer Malik Bader, the pilot weighs a moral dilemma in an unsettling reality, a tale of good and evil comes to life in this dystopian dreamscape.
