NXNE 2024 – MAK RO

Intense bass and reverb filled the air as Mak Ro took the stage at the Drake Underground as part of Music Export Memphis and NXNE. The Filipino-American duo is comprised of Eric Makapugay (Guitar) and Kristoffer Ruaro (Vocals). Together, Mak Ro has built an international audience of dedicated fans. Their set at NXNE was determined to have audiences feeling soulful and reminiscent. During the performance, the crowd effortlessly swayed to the music, instinctively grabbing their significant other and holding them close (if they had one). Makapugay had some impressive solos throughout the set and set the tone for much of the performance. Of course, Ruaro’s vocals is what audiences latched on to, with smooth inflections and velvety delivery. The duo performed their hits such as “Boulevardier” and “Paint” but also previewed unreleased music that sounded ethereal. Ruaro explained how this is Mak Ro’s first-time visiting Toronto, and how impressed he is with the people, especially their looks. The duo is a definite check out if you are a fan of romantic R&B or just need something to vibe to late at night.
