LOVERS
@ THE BOVINE SEX CLUB, TORONTO
JUNE 4, 2024
LOVERS were the second act of the night at The Bovine on Tuesday. With no warning the ‘Peace Punks Of London’ started blasting metal into the hearts and ears of the audience. It was clear the performance was going to be ‘loud, fast and rowdy’ as put by frontman Thomas Smithson. The self-described Punkadelic Rock trio also features Will Gosso on drums and Adam on guitar and vocals. The bass heavy metal music expressed a deeper carnage that is present in every living moment, it had some of the crowd utterly shook. Seeing people cringe from the volume and general distortion was the highlight of my night. However, LOVERS won the audience over with their versatility, performing songs like “White Rabbit” and “Cosmic Cafe” off their new album, LOVERS 1. By dropping to their knees, screaming, sweating, and headbanging, the band was definitely one of the more memorable performances of Canadian Music Week so far.
