About Actors
ACTORS’ 2018 album, It Will Come to You (Artoffact Records), put the band’s moody, anthemic style on the map, earning these words from Post-Punk.com: “Vancouver’s brilliant post-punk and new-wave quartet ACTORS continue their flair for sonic cinematics… The atmosphere quivers with singer Jason Corbett’s crooning voice, augmented by shivering guitars and stark synths.” Three years later, the follow-up, Acts of Worship saw features on several “Best of 2021” album lists, major support from CBC Radio (4 singles added) and coverage in Spill Magazine, Exclaim Magazine, BrooklynVegan, Post-Punk.com, Northern Transmissions, and The Vancouver Sun, to name a few. Acts of Worship showcases driving beats, massive hooks, and dramatic atmospheres β equally melancholy and electrifying, it plays like the soundtrack to a Michael Mann film.
Since 2017, ACTORS has toured extensively in the USA, Canada, and Europe, while hitting many of the best-loved festivals, including Terminus Festival, Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Cold Waves, Infest, A Murder of Crows, Absolution Fest, Nocturnal Culture Nights, and many others. The band gave sessions to LA’s Part Time Punks and Seattle’s KEXP, while their songs “Slaves” & “Crystal” found their way to episodes of Nancy Drew and the Netflix series The Order.
Not much slowed down for ACTORS during the pandemic. The band released an impressive seven singles with accompanying music videos, making productive use of their time during lockdown. ACTORS returned to touring in 2022, completing North American and European tours where Montreal Rocks offered a raving live review of the band stating “If I was only allowed to go to one show this year, I would now choose ACTORS…[they] are a band that sculpt aural works of art, time and time again.”
About Leathers
LEATHERS is the electro-pop project of Canadian musician and visual artist, Shannon Hemmett (also the keyboardist of acclaimed Vancouver post punk band ACTORS).
After teasing audiences with a collection of stylish singles, Hemmett signed a worldwide album deal with Toronto-based Artoffact Records in 2020. Her Reckless EP compiling these tracks, amassed a loyal cult following, and went on to become the top-selling EP of the label’s 20+ year history. Ablaze with neon synths, and nocturnal atmospheres, Hemmett’s sublime voice floats to the forefrontβsearching for the truth between fantasy and reality.
In February, LEATHERS returns with a new single, “Crash”; a sleek and hypnotic encounter with danger; real and imagined. Her upcoming debut album ULTRAVIOLET promises to catapult Leathers to the forefront of smart, exciting, electro-pop. See LEATHERS live at Cruel World Festival 2024 in Pasadena, CA on May 11th.
