When Justin Vernon and Bon Iver came up with his debut For Emma, Forever Ago back in 2007, we not only got a classic alt-folk album, but music that definitely influenced a set of upcoming artists that wanted to create introspective music.

Whether Vernon’s influence was intentional or unintentional on such artists actually doesn’t matter. What does is whether their music is any good in comparison to Vernon and his classic.

Hazlett, an Australian artist who developed his music in Sweden, can certainly be compared to Vernon, but the music he presents on his latest 6-song EP Goodbye To The Valley Low, definitely raises to the standard Bon Iver set – brilliantly structured melodies with often very sparse arrangements and excellent, echoing vocals that really set the mood, particularly with the introspective lyrics that Hazlett presents with his music.

One of those late-night specials that just begs multiple replays.
