SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: ALL THE BEES – ALL THE BEES

All The Bees

ALL THE BEES
ALL THE BEES
HOBOPOP RECORDINGS

Artists weaned on the so-called ‘old’ folk music, the one that originated decades, or even centuries ago, very often tend to stick to the originals as much as they can.

On the other hand, there are those who want to keep the spirit of the original folk music, but at the same time bring it up to the modern times, whether they are covering well-known songs, or coming up with of originals of their own.

Kirsty McGee and Gitka Partington, two well-seasoned artists, who have now combined forces as All The Bees, and who came up with an album of the same name, have certainly taken that second, and at the same time harder route here.

McGee and Partington present a set of originals that at the same time keeps the spirit of that ‘old’ folk music but with musical touches that covers the decades of developments in folk music, with equally detailed lyrics, creating something quite special, even though they actually only met three times in real life.

Quite an achievement and quite a musical feat at the same time.
