BEND SINISTER RELEASE NEW DOUBLE SINGLE “RENEGADE” & “CAN I GET YOUR NAME” AHEAD OF FIFTH STUDIO RECORD DUE SPRING 2024
CORDOVA BAY RECORDS
Vancouver’s own BEND SINISTER drop new double single “Renegade” and “Can I Get Your Name” to streaming services everywhere. Produced by Ben Kaplan (Mother Mother, Rare Americans) these infectious tracks see the band take listeners into retrograde, harkening back to 70s’ groove-heavy jams and free-spirited rock n roll combined with exciting flavours of modern alt-rock. For fans of The Sheepdogs, and Yukon Blonde, the tracks will appear on Bend Sinister’s upcoming fifth studio album, which is expected to hit shelves in spring 2024 via Cordova Bay Records.
On “Renegade” Bend Sinister comments: “Dog is man’s best friend. We played with that metaphor in this song, starting with that relationship in mind and how perhaps it can relate to more than just our K9 pals.”
“Can I Get Your Name is about that fairytale romance that stems from two strangers meeting in the crowd and finding love. With dating apps and the online world is it even possible to find love the old-fashioned way?”, explains the band.
Earlier this year the group released two sets of double singles including “What It Takes”, “Leave The Lights On”, “Price You Pay” and “Hot City”. “Price You Pay”, an earworm ready to be cranked at full volume, hit Top 10 on the Breaking Alt chart and saw support from X92.9 Calgary, X100.7 Red Deer, 104.9 The Wolf Regina, 98.3 CIFM Kamloops, Sonic Radio Vancouver, 91X Belleville, Sirius XM The Verge and 88.3 CJIQ Kitchener to name a few. In addition to this it was included in Alan Cross’ 5 Songs You Must Hear This Week, V13 Media, CBC Daybreak, Lethbridge Beat, CKXU, and 3AM Revelations. The Indy Review had this to say about the song, “Bend Sinister are still cranking out jams more electrifying than most of the young bands coming up.”
MORE ON BEND SINISTER
With over 5 Million cumulative streams and two Top 30 rock radio hits in Canada for “Don’t You Know” and “Walk The Other Way” under their belts, Bend Sinister are growing faster than ever. Reminiscent of groups like The Sheepdogs, Arkells, and Yukon Blonde, the band came to life in 1999 when band leader Dan Moxon (vocals/keys) rallied some classmates to start writing and performing music influenced by math, indie, prog and alternative rock.
Older, possibly wiser, and currently signed to Cordova Bay Records, Vancouver-based Moxon and his now longtime band mates Joseph Martin (guitar), Matt Rhode (bass) and Nick Petrowich (drums) have been furiously writing and recording the band’s 7th full length album. Their attitude not so far removed from their school days, Bend Sinister maintains the burning tenacity required to press on as a working indie band.
Finding an early cult audience with the 2005 album Through the Broken City, Moxon began a journey that would take Bend Sinister through multiple record deals, a dozen full-length albums and EPs, several world tours and a creative arc that bridged the technical math rock influence to the songwriting and pop sensibilities of radio. Their soaring vocals and dynamic, keyboard driven sound owes as much to Supertramp and Yes as it does to Harry Nillson and Paul McCartney.
