After seven years, Daughter has released another album. It was worth the wait. Stereo Mind Game features poetic lyrics, stunning instrumentation, and powerful vocals.

Each track is incredibly cathartic and full of insight, depth, nuance, and emotion. “Party” features some of the most moving lyrics from the album. The instrumentation is top-notch, whether it be the calm acoustic guitar melody in “Isolation”, the creepy strings of “(Missed Calls)”, or the dreamy sound of “Wish I Could Cross The Sea”. Daughter even seems to be experimenting a bit with some different genres, with the opening to “Future Lover”, which feels almost like an industrial song from the 90s.

The upbeat and cinematic orchestral arrangements blend perfectly with the often bleak and dark lyrics. As a result, many tracks simultaneously have a feeling of both hope and despair. “Swim Back” and “Party” capture this contrast the best.

Elena Tonra’s vocals are incredible, with her warm and comforting vocals in “Be On Your Way” and her beautifully haunting ones on “Neptune” being two of the main highlights.

Overall, Stereo Mind Game is indie folk at its finest.
