The Love Still Held Me Near
Dine Alone Records
Dallas Green, aka City and Colour has amassed quite a following behind his six albums so far, and his latest, The Love Still Held Me Near, will probably not only confirm that following, but will probably make it grow.
There are some very evident reasons for that throughout Green’s work so far, firmly confirmed here. One is his quite exceptional, intimate songwriting, which reaches new heights here. The other are his intricate, and quite passionate vocals that don’t wave at any point.
The reasons for those heights and passion may lie in Green’s own words – “The Love Still Held Me Near was born out of unimaginable loss and the subsequent journey through the grief and heartache that followed,” explains Green. “It’s about digging deep down into yourself and attempting to unearth hope and light in the things that can comfort you through those times. For me that has always been writing and recording music, so that’s exactly what I did.”
Actually, Green was able to transform all that grief and passion behind it into some excellent music here.
