With all the exceptions, high quality in music almost always registers with the audiences too, very often surpassing a specific genre within a certain artist works in. Margo Price definitely fits that description, and her fanbase definitely surpasses the country and Americana tags that are usually used to describe her music.

Her latest album Strays goes on to prove that point, and then some. First of all, whatever tags you might attach to Price’s music, she was never the one that for one moment bothered to stick strictly to any and all of them. Here, Price ventures even further into rock territory, with both abandon and full-on energy, that just add another great element to all ten songs here.

Something for that might be owed to the 70s California sound producer Jonathan Wilson brings along, or it could be the psychedelic mushrooms Price and her husband and musical partner Jeremy Ivey consumed while preparing the album.

Actually, it was probably both, along with some immaculate song writing along with full emotional involvement from Price that put Strays among Price’s best albums so far.
