Usually, when an artist takes on a working alias, the public still gets a chance to learn his birth given name. At least, at some point.

Still, New York artist Ciao! has decided to remain otherwise anonymous for his debut album Scary Haha. It might be a risky undertaking, but Ciao! seems to have good reasons for doing so. Certainly, the one that may be the most compelling is the fact that the album itself is a result of his coping with a severe illness, treatment, and recovery from the whole process. Actually, much of the album was written in hospital beds or recovery from various surgeries and treatments.

As you might expect, the album, on one hand, has this somber mood, both musically and lyrically, Ciao! incorporating a lot of elements of classical music, particularly the early periods like baroque. Yet, on the other hand, throughout the album there is an undercurrent that spells both release and hope for the better, as well as the perseverance to keep that artistic/musical flame in you still burning. This might be reflected in the fact that 20% of gross streaming/sales will be donated to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

With Scary Haha, hopefully Ciao! actually might have fully healed himself of the health problems that were beleaguering him. And yes, his music is that good.
