Peach Pit
You And Your Friends
Columbia Records
Vancouver’s Peach Pit is a band known for their bedroom pop jams and their ability to seemingly spin dreams into music. Their new album You and Your Friends delivers just that. Close your eyes and listen to “Black Licorice”…I guarantee you’ll be swaying and daydreaming by the first chorus.
Listening to this album is like standing at the edge of the ocean: the waves come and go in a gentle rhythm, pulling you along, and seeming to go one forever. Neil Smith’s soft vocals are just as easy to enjoy, and continue to add the sad pop edge to their music. It’s so easy to lose yourself in the sound. Listen to “Brian’s Movie” and just try not to move along with Christopher Vanderkooy’s guitar.
While the band describes themselves as “chewed bubblegum pop”, that is really selling themselves short. It’s easy to see every influence they include in their music that make it so much more than that. From surf rock to psych rock, Peach Pit’s sophomore album shows their growth while staying true to what they do so right.
