SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: MR! MOURAY – BATS IN DISGUISE

Mr! Mouray

Mr! Mouray
Bats In Disguise
Bullseye Records Of Canada

One of the “good time rock ‘n’ roll” and timely albums of the season, Bats In Disguise by newly formed but veteran Canadian band Mr! Mouray.

Available only digitally for the time being from Bullseye Records of Canada, Mr! Mouray is made up of former members of The Mahones, Swedish Fish, Swindled, and Moving Targetz (Simon Bedford, Domenic Whelan, and Jaimie Vernon, author of the Canadian Pop Music Encyclopedia), and delivers a fast moving and earnest 14-track track list that is composed of a touch of Lou Reed on the opening track “Serious Jane,” flat out guitar rockers in the songs “After School Special” and “Burn Hill,”  the melodic and vocally harmonious “Cold Comfort,” and the amusing pokes at certain segments of life in “I Hate Rock And Roll” and “Cheesehead.” The song that illustrates the real promise of the band moving forward, is the anthemic title cut “Bats In Disguise.”
