Album Review: Dominic Lord – Fashion Show EP

Dominic Lord
Fashion Show EP
DLR/Geffen Records
RATING

Brooklyn’s very own 19-year-old rapper, Dominic Lord, has received a lot of attention and hype for his track, “Pierce” featuring Pusha T. He’s bringing more to the table with his EP, Fashion Show.

With raw beats and solid production, Dominic Lord has his own style with music and everyone seems to be digging it. However, his delivery as a rapper is very light, he seems to be laid back but his lyrics seem like they should have a heavier and more energized delivery.

The EP starts with “Fashion Show,” a smooth and mellow opener for his fashion show of an album. The beats are great, the synthesizers are great, the melody, tempo and beat change up’s are great, the variety is great, but again, where is the delivery? It’s almost as if his voice is the runway and the beats are the style and fashion.

“Pierce”, the original version is a great piece of work and the most intense on the EP whereas the remixed version is more aggressive. “Mozart, Go” and “Colour Me Red” have great delivery from Lord, where he seems to have more attitude while he raps, making this a highlight and fun track.

Dominic Lord’s EP sounds promising and we can expect more from this up and coming rapper in the future. Fashion Show is a solid album where Lord showcases variety, talent and amazing production work.
