SPILL ALBUM REVIEW: WILDER MAKER – SMOKING THE BUNNY

Wilder Maker

WILDER MAKER
SMOKING THE BUNNY
WESTERN VINYL

When we reviewed Wilder Maker’s The Streets Like Beds Still Warm album back in 2025, we noted that the band’s frontman Gabriel Birnbaum is all over the place, operating as a music curator/PR man, solo artist, or as a member/principal songwriter for Wilder Maker.

As the band’s new album Smoking the Bunny comes up, nothing changes much. After all, it is a second installment in a planned trilogy. Birnbaum is still busy with all things he does, but at the same time, it seems it didn’t lose his touch at creating some intriguing music that is all over the darker side of things (but then, such are the times). Neither did his compatriots lose the touch at actually making all the musical proceedings sound good to great, with the likes of Sean Mullins and Katie Von Sleicher among other being still around, with additions this time of some great musicians like guitarist Chuck Johnson.

It is one of those very late-night albums that can get you thrilled or scared (often both at the same time), but thoroughly enjoyable whichever way you take it.
