ELLA THOMSON
TRIUMPH AND SADNESS
MR BONGO RECORDS

A great, brilliant sound never goes away, and the one that characterises the classic deep soul of 60s and 70s is certainly among them. Not many artists today either venture (or sometimes have the capabilities) to reach the level of that iconic sound, so the fans in most cases have to rely on their scratched or worn-out sound carriers or often scarce reissues.
To find a relatively new artist taking that musical route is quite scarce these days, but fans of all things can rejoice, as all the way from Melbourne Australia comes Ella Thompson with her album Triumph And Sadness, that is not only in the vein of the classic soul of bygone days but practically recreates it to a pat.
Yet, instead of just merely copying it or going for covers, Thompson recreates that sound through her own (songwriting and singing) voice, but with the feeling that this kind of music requires at all times to really work.
